Kit Kitatani Kit Kitatani, President
Born in 1931, Mr. Kitatani graduated from Tamagawa University, Tokyo in 1953 and from the Graduate School of St. Paul's University, Tokyo in 1955. He worked for the United Nations from 1962 to 1993, culminating in serving as UNDP Resident Representative in Myanmar (1986-1990) and Assistant Secretary-General/Deputy Executive Director, UN Population Fund (1990-1993). Since his retirement from the United Nations in 1993 and till 2000, he served as Senior Advisor to UNDP.

In 1994, Mr. Kitatani established "2050," an organization designed to promote awareness among the Japanese public of such global issues as the environment, population, poverty and also dedicated to enhancing women's status in the developing countries through education and revenue producing activities.

Besides being Chairman of 2050, he was also a member of the US/Japan Common Agenda Round Table until 2000. He is a member of the Advisory Committee of the Foundation for Global Environment and Peace. He actively participates in international meetings and delivers speeches all over Japan and in other countries on global issues.

Akiko Kitatani Akiko Kitatani, Vice President
Mrs. Kitatani graduated from the Sacred Heart University in Tokyo. Upon graduation, Mrs. Kitatani taught at the Sacred Heart University and also worked at various firms. After her marriage to Kit Kitatani, she lived in Indonesia, Pakistan, New York and Myanmar. She has lived in New York with her family for 22 years.

In New York, Mrs. Kitatani worked for the International School of the United Nations for eight years. Aside from her work affiliation, she was a volunteer of the United Nation's Women's Guild. While in Myanmar, she was the chairperson of the UN Women's Association and actively supported such facilities as orphanages, schools for the blind, and villages for lepers. Since 1983 she has been a devout follower of macrobiotics, which cured her husband of his cancer.

Born in 1943. Chairman, Heilman group. Designer and manufacturer of Point of Purchase displays for over 30 years. Chairman of Hospitality Committee in Sukyo Mahikari, New York, a spiritual organization.
Ian Kinniburgh Ian Kinniburgh, Board Member
Born in 1944. He has served in UNDP, UNCTAD and the United Nations as Economist in various and important positions. Retired as Director of the Development Policy and Planning Office, Department of Economic and Social Affairs in 2007.
Stirling Scruggs Stirling Scruggs, Board Member
Born in 1943. Stirling Scruggs retired from UNFPA in 2004, after twenty-three years of service as Director of Information and External Relations Division. He served as UNFPA's Country Director to China, Mongolia, and North Korea (1990-1993) and Country Director to the Philippines and South Korea (1981-1986). Prior to his work at UNFPA, he was director of Planned Parenthood in Memphis, Tennessee, and a Peace Corps volunteer in the Philippines.
Joseph Toochin Joseph Toochin, Board Member
Attorney-at-law, member of the Massachusetts Bar. Founding partner of an international law office in Brussels, Belgium between 1967 and 1974. Joined the United Nations in 1974 serving with the Secretariat of the Joint Appeals Board and retired in 1996 from the United Nations Development Programme as Chief of the Legal Section, Office of Human Resources. Member of the Board of Directors of the United Nations Federal Credit Union since 1995, and Chairman of the Board from June 1998 until June 2002. Currently, legal consultant to UNDP and UNFPA.
